Abstract

Punjabi is one of the world's most widely spoken languages, with millions of speakers across India and many countries abroad. Despite its rich cultural and linguistic heritage, the study of Punjabi is facing declining interest among students, particularly at the school level. Factors such as the growing preference for English-medium education, inadequate learning resources, and poor language proficiency among students have contributed to this trend. In this context, the integration of web-based learning tools offers new opportunities for improving Punjabi language teaching and learning. This paper examines the concept of web-based language learning and explores various digital resources that can support Punjabi language education. The study highlights the role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in creating interactive, learner-centered, and resource-rich learning environments. It discusses a range of web-based tools, including Mentimeter, Animoto, Kahoot, and Quizizz, which can enhance student engagement, collaboration, assessment, and motivation. The paper also reviews educational applications supported by the Punjab Government, particularly the Punjab Educare App, E-Learn Punjabi App, and iScuela Learn App, which provide access to digital learning materials, videos, quizzes, assignments, and curriculum-based resources. The analysis indicates that web-integrated learning tools can significantly improve language acquisition by promoting active participation, self-paced learning, instant feedback, and greater accessibility to educational content. The Punjab Educare App, in particular, has emerged as a comprehensive digital platform supporting both teachers and students through curriculum-aligned resources and interactive learning opportunities. The paper concludes that the effective integration of web-based learning tools with traditional classroom instruction can strengthen Punjabi language education and enhance students’ academic achievement. It recommends greater adoption of digital technologies, teacher training in ICT-based pedagogies, and continued development of online Punjabi learning resources to preserve and promote the language in the digital age.
