Abstract

The expansion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the transformation associated with Industry 4.0 have significantly altered economic systems, workforce expectations, and educational priorities. Intelligent automation, machine learning, and data-driven systems are redefining professional competencies worldwide. Educational institutions must therefore transit from traditional knowledge transmission models to competency-based approaches aligned with emerging technological realities.The integration of AI within educational institutions is not merely a technical upgrade but a strategic pedagogical shift requiring high-level administrative governance. Leadership plays a central role in guiding AI integration, ensuring ethical governance, and cultivating future-ready competencies. This review offers a comprehensive synthesis of current research at the intersection of educational leadership, AI integration, and the evolving skill requirements of Industry 4.0. The paper examines how leaders can strategically embed AI tools within institutional ecosystems.It highlights how leaders must move beyond technical oversight to foster a culture of AI literacy, balancing the drive for administrative efficiency with the preservation of human-centric pedagogical values. Policy initiatives such as National Education Policy 2020 and Digital India are discussed to contextualize reform efforts. From the perspective of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the Digital India mission, AI integration is no longer just a technical choice but a core leadership responsibility. This study argues that the success of AI depends on leaders who can bridge the gap between high-level government policy and daily classroom practice. The review identifies leadership competencies, implementation challenges, and research gaps while proposing a multidimensional AI leadership framework.
